Carpenter Ants do not eat wood, but excavate it. They prefer to live in moisture-laden wood. An infestation of these ants are not only a nuisance but can cause damage to your home. Proper identification of the insect is a must to ensure proper control and prevent needless expenses.
A large number of lady beetles (ladybugs) infesting homes and buildings in the US were first reported in the early 1990's. The are normally considered beneficial since they live outdoors and feed on plant pests. They are mostly a nuisance, as they fly indoors looking for food in cooler months and often become trapped and emit yellowish defense secretion as they die, which can leave stains.
Silverfish infestations can be quite a nuisance as they can damage book bindings, wallpaper, paper goods and dry foods. They may eat irregular shaped holes in wallpaper to get the paste and even bite very small holes in various fabrics including cotton, linen, and silk. They may also leave a yellowish stain on your fabric. They are often found in attics, basements, kitchens, sinks, bathtubs, bookcases, on closet shelves, behind baseboards, wallpaper, window or door frames, wall voids, adn sub-floor areas. They like dark, moist environments and mostly come out at night.
While most spiders are harmless and can even be beneficial since they feed on other insects; they can be a nuesance when you find unsightly spider webs around your home, or wake up with a spider bite. There are only a few harmful spiders to humans in this area including the black widow and brown recluse.
Hornets are very aggressive and can grow up to 2.2 inches in size. They are protective of their nest and can be aggravated easily, especially near their nest. They send off signals when in danger, so if you are stung by one or kill one near its nest, you will most likely be attacked by many.
Yellow jackets, often mistaken for bees due to the similarities of the bee like color. Yellow Jackets are very aggressive and tend to pester young children, especially in summer months. For those with allergic reactions, their stings can be deadly. The treatment of bees versus yellow jackets are very different.
House Centipedes usually live outdoors in damp areas; under leaves, stones, boards, tree bark, or in mulch around outdoor plantings. In homes, they prefer to live in damp portions of basements, closets, bathrooms, unexcavated areas under the house & beneath the bark of firewood stored indoors. They feed on small insects, insect larvae, & on spiders. Technically, they could bite, but it is considered harmless to people.

Mice often come in looking for food or a warm place to rest, and sometimes don't leave and will reproduce.
